Loving Bottoms Diaper Bank, under the direction of LeeAnn Porter, is on a mission to ensure no baby is without clean diapers. The diaper bank, which started in 2015 out of LeeAnn’s home is today known as a “gateway” offering that allows families to be introduced to other local social service agencies and resources.
With Loving Bottoms vision to make a difference in the lives of local families and their partnership with existing service agencies to provide supplemental diapers, the organization was awarded a 2018 Turnout Grant from the Community Foundation.
The impact of what Loving Bottoms provided our region is eye opening. The organization distributed 76,102 diapers in Knox County and 38,305 diapers in Warren County. This means 2,300 connection made with families receiving supplemental diapers from one of Loving Bottoms partners- such as a food pantry, a parent educator, or foster care caseworker.
LeeAnn said, “We strategically decided to put our diapers with partners that can offer far more than just diapers. It is during those connections that we believe magical work is done to better equip the families in our community. From a survey we provide with our diapers we’ve learned that diapers reduce stress, frustration, and help moms and dads to feel like better parents.
We can think of no worse scenario than a stressed and frustrated parent paired with a crying baby due to diaper rash. Our program, with the Community Foundation’s support, helps to change that scenario.”
