Over the next 10 years, $2.1 billion will be transferred from one generation to the next in Knox and Warren Counties. Community Funds are a way to ensure that local wealth remains local and creates a permanent source of financial support for the communities of Alexis, Knoxville, Monmouth, Roseville, and Williamsfield.
Community Funds are developed by local residents and built with gifts from community members, businesses, service organizations, former residents, and other sources. They are guided by local advisory boards that are empowered to award grants that positively impact their communities and residents.
Galesburg Community Foundation comes alongside Community Funds to provide investment experience, administrative support, and planned giving knowledge that assist in the wise management of the fund.
Community Funds are endowments, which are permanent funds where the principal is invested and a portion of the returns are awarded locally as grants. Once a Community Fund is established, it grows forever, creating a permanent source of financial support for local needs.
No one can know what a community’s most urgent needs will be 20 years from now. Community Funds allow towns to build the capacity to meet those future challenges.
The Alexis Community Fund awarded three mini grants to teachers at United North. Librarian Jaime Koerner used her mini grant to purchase audiobooks, special education teacher Mindy Murray purchased a series of books to improve student comprehension skills, and reading interventionist Marci Bertelson purchased new phonics books for her kindergarten and first grade students who are struggling readers.
Impactful. Donating to Community Funds guarantees that your contribution is destined to stay local, allowing you to see the direct impact of your generosity in your hometown.
Enduring. Community Funds provide a place for planned gifts or bequests for both current and former residents.
Financial. Your gifts receive the maximum tax benefits allowed by law. In addition to cash, the Foundation accepts gifts of securities, real estate, and other personal property, which may help you avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated assets.
“No matter where you live today, if you’re proud of your community, this is certainly the way that you can benefit it. This is forever. “
