Creating a Donor Advised Fund is a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to giving. They allow you and your family to remain actively involved in your charitable interests. Donors recommend the organizations or causes they want to support, and gifts are distributed by Galesburg Community Foundation on your behalf. Establishing a Donor Advised Fund is a great way to stay actively involved in philanthropy.
Wanting to make a difference and be active community members, Chris and Lindsay Bayer established a Donor Advised Fund at Galesburg Community Foundation. Chris says that setting up the fund was important because it makes the process of giving back simple.
Flexible. You recommend grants to qualified charitable organizations at any time of year you wish. The Community Foundation works with you to ensure your gift is used in a valuable and meaningful way, just as you intend.
Financial. Your initial gift to create a fund, and subsequent gifts to support it (which you can make at any time), receive the maximum tax benefits allowed by law. In addition to cash, the Foundation accepts gifts of securities, real estate, and other personal property, which may help you avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated assets.
Simple. You have one tax receipt for the gift you make to the fund in place of multiple receipts from the nonprofits you support.
Generational. A family Donor Advised Fund is a great way to introduce your family to philanthropy.
